Stay Warm, Stay Safe: Combat Cold Weather

Winter is wonderful, but it can be risky if you’re not ready. Here are some simple tips to stay safe and warm during the colder months:

Keep It Comfortable

Hypothermia can occur in homes with temperatures below 65°F. Keep your home comfortably warm by setting the thermostat to 65°F or above.

Defeat Drafts

Use rolled towels to block drafts where the door meets the floor.

Close Blinds and Curtains

Keep cold air out by closing blinds and curtains. Use weather stripping or caulk to seal gaps around windows.

Bundle Up

Dress warmly indoors with socks, slippers, and throw blankets.

Keep It Covered

Add extra covers to your bed and consider wearing long underwear and a head covering at night.

Eat Well

Maintain a healthy weight to help your body fight the cold.
